A well-organized set piece by Canadian captain and midfielder Jessie Fleming found striker Evelyne Viens heading the ball in the 103' of extra time. The lone goal was enough to send Canada into the semifinals of the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup besting Costa Rica, 1-0.

This was the second meeting between the two teams in the tournament with Canada winning both matches and dominating the Ticas with 83% passing accuracy. Argentina's defense and goalkeeper was busy all day as Canada fired 20 shots, completed 640 passes in their latest standoff. For scoring the winning goal, Evelyne Viens was named player of the match.

In the second quarterfinal match, Brazil demolished Argentina 5-1 in a South American Classic. An assist from Brazilian midfielder Bia Zanerrato found Vitoria Yaya in the box at 19' heading the ball for Brazil for a 1-0 lead.

 

Brazil doubled the lead in the 36' when MF Yasmin struck a low-driven from outside the penalty box.

Bia Zanerrato got involved again in the 54' when Argentina's defense was unable to clear the ball inside the box making it 3-0 for Brazil.

Joga Bonito was in full display with Brazil in total control of the match at 4-0 after Gabi Nunes scored a header in the 61'-minute mark.

Argentina, with pride on the line, refused to give up. Boca Juniors MF Gomez Ares long pass at the 81' found Celeste Dos Santos unmarked, chipping the ball over the head of Brazilian GK Luciana making the score 4-1.

Brazil's Zanerrato found herself open outside at the box again in the 95' allowing her to score a goal via a left footed strike to secure the game for Brazil, 5-1.
