Team Launches Two New Kits to Represent the Grit and Joy of Angel City’s Players and Community
LOS ANGELES (February 27, 2024) - Today, Angel City Football Club (ACFC) revealed both home and away kits for the upcoming season. The stark contrast between the 2024 black home kit and the Sol Rosa (ACFC’s version of pink) away kit represents the grit and determination needed on the field and the collective joy of ACFC’s players, fans, and community. Both are now available for purchase at www.angelcity.com/shop.
The home kit, entitled “Moonlight,” prominently features the signature wings of the angel on the ACFC crest as a nod to the club’s mantra, “Volemos.” The mantra, meaning “Let's fly together” is also found on the bottom left of the jersey. The texture of the wing design reflects the grittiness demanded on and off the field. “Grit” is often used by ACFC players and coaches when asked what quality they possess as a club and how they made the 2023 NWSL Playoffs in their second year in the league.
ACFC forward Sydney Leroux said of ACFC’s 2023 season, “It’s been a tough year for us so far, but we can show that we can get results. We can have grit, we can have heart. I think that’s the most important thing, to get out there and fight.”
Contrasting with the dark home kit, the away kit, entitled “Sol,” tells a story of joy and optimism. The sunrise gradient across the kit illustrates that regardless of the outcome, the sun in LA rises and shines each day. The Sol kit celebrates the relentless joy that is at the core of Angel City’s club, team, and community. Both designs are part of a league-wide reset. While the home kit designs are unique for each club, the away kits all use the same gradient design in each team’s colorway, speaking to the strength of the collective.
“While these two kits are intentionally very different, you can’t have one without the other,” said ACFC President and Co-Founder Julie Uhrman. “They are yin and yang, the moon and the sun, the dark and the light. You have seen the incredible hard work that our players put in day in and day out on the pitch at every single game. Yet they play with such infectious joy. It is how our team shows up on the field and how we show up in the community—with determination to make a difference and the optimism that we will achieve our goals.”
Nike makes the jersey with sustainable 100% recycled polyester fibers. The replica jersey features breathable side panels, Nike Dri-FIT technology, and a unique neckline. The home jersey is in ACFC's asphalt black, with accents of armour gray and Sol Rosa. The away kit is a Sol Rosa gradient.
Replica goalkeeper jerseys will also be available for purchase as part of a late spring release.
Founding partner Klarna will allow fans who purchase the new kits with Klarna to receive $10 off through 11:59 p.m. PT on Sunday, March 3.
MORE THAN A JERSEY
In addition to the jersey's unique symbolism, it is arguably one of the most impactful kits in global soccer thanks to the value the team’s sponsors bring to the jersey. Through its Angel City Sponsorship Model, where 10% of all sponsorships are reallocated back into the LA community, ACFC will continue reallocating millions of dollars for impact in partnership with the team's three jersey partners: DoorDash, Birdies, and Sprouts Farmers Market.
Further, 10% of the home and away jerseys sales with the number 22 on the back will fuel the Player 22 Program. This one-of-a-kind fund creates pathways to support any current or former National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) player interested in pursuing a career in the sports industry. Whether coaching, refereeing, or working in media or front office roles, the fund's ultimate goal is to prepare players for entry into the workforce following their professional soccer career. Front-of-kit sponsor DoorDash made their foray into professional soccer with a significant multi-year commitment as the largest sponsorship in NWSL history. Since 2022, alongside All Peoples Community Center and the LA LGBT Center, ACFC and DoorDash have combated food insecurity in Los Angeles by delivering over 1.3 million meals to communities in need since the inception of the partnership.
Female-founded direct-to-consumer footwear brand Birdies is the exclusive sleeve sponsor supporting ACFC's mission to empower girls and women to pursue their dreams. In 2021, ACFC and Birdies launched the one-of-a-kind SOAR Internship Program, a six-week paid internship and rotational program for eight high school juniors and seniors pursuing education and careers in entertainment, the arts, sports, and business. Over the program's first three years, interns spent over 185 collective hours with executives across both companies and received more than $57,000 in educational grants.
Back-of-kit sponsor Sprouts Farmers Market joined ACFC to address nutrition education and fresh food access throughout Los Angeles. Since the partnership's inception, ACFC and Sprouts have worked with The Garden School Foundation to refurbish and provide essential supplies and equipment for eight Los Angeles Unified School District school gardens. Together, ACFC and Sprouts have delivered more than 13,000 collective hours of garden-based education to over 1,000 elementary school children and have provided those children and their families with over 67,000 pounds of free, healthy produce through Food Forward and The Garden School Foundation's pop-up farmers markets at 24th St. Elementary School in Downtown Los Angeles.
